Mid-Autumn Festival Colour Palette中秋节

Moonlit creams, warm golds and pale autumn greens

Mid-Autumn Festival, 中秋节, is the festival of the full moon, family reunion and the mooncake. Its palette is calmer and cooler than Spring Festival's — less shout, more glow. The central idea is moonlight: soft creams and pale yellows that read as a lit sky, drawn from the autumn solar terms 白露 (White Dew) and 秋分 (Autumn Equinox), where the year's colours turn pale, dusty and yellow.

Warm golds sit underneath as prosperity and harvest. Because mooncakes are the season's real product, packaging often needs a premium, quiet feel — cream and gold on a deep ground, rather than the all-red of New Year. Pale greens and the muted yellows of late autumn give a designer an elegant third register when gold alone feels too sweet.

Cultural notes: the round shape is the point — roundness means reunion, so avoid square, sharp-edged hero motifs. Hares, moons and osmanthus are the safe symbols. Keep white as an accent rather than the dominant packaging colour, since it still carries a faint funereal edge, and avoid clock imagery, a common Chinese gifting taboo.

Cultural noteKeep white as an accent, not the main pack colour. Avoid square/sharp hero motifs (round = reunion) and clock imagery.
