Double Eleven Colour Palette双十一
High-energy commerce reds and ambers for the 11.11 sale
Double Eleven, 双十一, on 11 November, is the world's largest shopping festival. It has no rooted colour symbolism in the classical sense — it is a modern, commercial invention — so its palette is borrowed from the ones that already sell: red and gold for luck and urgency, plus the amber and orange that make a discount badge pop.
Translate that as energy. This is the one occasion where saturation and contrast are the point: a bright 赤 or 品红 primary, an amber or orange secondary for prices and countdowns, and warm browns only as texture, never as the lead. The mood is speed and abundance, not heritage.
The cautions are practical rather than ritual. Red is still the safest anchor for Chinese audiences, and 11.11 graphics compete with every other brand's red, so distinctiveness has to come from typography and layout rather than a clever colour. Avoid white-dominant creatives, which disappear against the festival wall and still carry a faint funereal edge; do not use the number four for tiered offers or bundles. Keep black for price text only. And remember 11.11 is not a traditional festival — no one expects ancestral colours, they expect noise, clarity and a reason to buy now.
