芒种 · Grain in Ear — "螳螂生,鵙始鸣,反舌无声。"
Imagery
From “secret colour” porcelain (mìsè), the rare celadon glaze reserved for the court. A greyed olive-green.
Origin
Secret-colour ware was fired for the Tang and Song courts and its glaze was famously kept from common use. As Grain in Ear’s succeeding colour it is that green — not a plant’s but a kiln’s, smooth, cool, and slightly muted.
