Imagery

The red of a skirt dyed with pomegranate — a deep, glowing scarlet. To “bow before the pomegranate skirt” means to be undone by a woman’s beauty.

Origin

Pomegranate-dyed skirts were a Tang fashion, and the phrase entered the language as shorthand for a beauty one cannot resist. As Summer Solstice’s succeeding colour it keeps the term’s heat but gives it a body and a wearer.
